Grauziniene: Lithuania can’t continue the suspension of the land sale to foreigners

BC, Vilnius, 18.10.2013.Print version
According to Lithuania's Speaker of the Seimas Loreta Grauziniene, Lithuania was at the end of its resources and could not continue the suspension of the land sale to foreigners. Grauziniene highlighted that Lithuania's try to suspend this process could end in the serious juridical outcomes, informs LETA/ELTA.

While giving an interview on a radio show Laisvoji Banga on Friday, the speaker of the Seimas commented on the attempts to initiate the referendum against Lithuania's land sale to foreigners.

"If the referendum is hold, we will be left in a puzzle because the commitments to the European Union (EU) have been already confirmed. We could not change them because it is very difficult to re-coordinate the issue of land sale to foreigners with all countries. We have been trimming as much as we could and now Lithuania is at the end of its resources," said Grauziniene.

The organizers of the referendum against the sale of land to foreigners in Lithuania believe that the Lithuanian laws limit citizens' initiative and participation in lawmaking.
