The head of the Latvian delegation to the Baltic Assembly, Janis Vucans (Green Party), confirmed to LETA that one of the topics was about making joint purchases among the Baltic States.

Because of the change of the Lithuanian government, talks on joint vaccine procurement for all three Baltic States were temporarily postponed, which resulted in a change of personnel in charge as well, Vucans explained. But today, the Baltic Assembly received support from Straujuma to deal with the problem. The first purchase of vaccines is expected this year.

A decrease in vaccine prices is not due because there is only one supplier for the first vaccine, and this purchase will be more of a trial. Later, when the next set of purchases will be made, talks about a reduction in prices might take place, since more offers will be seen at that time.

All three Baltic States could cooperate in military procurement but it is unclear when this initiative could materialize.

During the meeting, the situation in Ukraine, cooperation between ministries of Education and Science of all three Baltic States and matters concerning national security were discussed.
