Latvian Police carrying out search at ''Gan Bei'' restaurant in Riga
The ''Gan Bei'' restaurant chain is owned by the company Lage Ltd., which is partially owned by MP Sergejs Potapkins' (Harmony) wife Galina Karmaca.
LETA observed that several men are currently in the restaurant, who are likely officers from the State Revenue Service's Financial Police Department.
The Finance Police officers were sitting on tables inside the restaurant and going through a wide stack of documents, LETA observed.
As reported, the Saeima's Mandate, Ethics and Submissions Committee today supported the authorization of a search at the residence of MP Sergejs Potapkins, Prosecutor General Eriks Kalnmeiers told members of the press today.
The committee agreed to forward this matter for Saeima review.
According to the investigative news portal ''pietiek.com'', the authorization to carry out a search of Potapkins' property is in connection with a criminal process involving a company associated with his wife – Galina Karmaca.
Initial information leads to believe that Potapkins himself might not be involved in the affair, but since the property is also co-owned by the MP, the Prosecutor General's Office must first obtain the necessary authorization from Saeima to conduct the search.
The company in question is called Lage Ltd., which operates in the catering and restaurant business.
According to ''Firmas.lv'', Karmaca owns a five percent stake in Lage Ltd..
