Pskov businessmen interested in joint venture with Latvia
As reported, before the Midsummer holidays, Agriculture Minister Janis Duklavs led a group of Latvian businessmen on a trip to Pskov, writes LETA.
Duklavs held talks with Pskov Regional Governor Andrei Turchak, and the two exchanged information about Russia's and Latvia's economic situation. Turchak noted that the conditions for Russian businessmen are also complicated.
The Pskov side is interested in Latvia's experience in higher agricultural education, including exchange programs for specialists.
During the visit, business contacts were made between vegetable growers, and the Russians were specifically interested in establishing a joint enterprise with Sabiedriba Marupe Ltd.. They also showed interest in potato growing technology and seed farming.
Latvian Central Dairy Association Board Chairman Janis Solks commented that the delegation had enjoyed "utmost Russian hospitality."
"The market in Pskov is small; the population in the region is about 700,000. The have six dairies, so the chances for us to break through and sell our products, thereby saving our industry, are slim. But Pskov can serve as a starting point for other Russian regions – St. Petersburg, Novgorod, etc.," said Solks.
At this time, Pskov stores sell the Rigas piena kombinats’ milk brand "Lase", "Laima" chocolate and candies, Rigas sprotes canned sprats and Spilva tomato sauces.
