Average useful floor area amounts to 26 square meters per capita in Lithuania

Private property accounted for 97%, state and municipal property – for almost three% of the total stock of dwellings. Dwellings in individual houses accounted for 48% of the total area of the stock of dwellings, writes LETA/ELTA.
The national stock of dwellings consisted of 1280.2 thous. dwellings, that means that there were 400 dwellings per 1000 population. In urban areas, mostly two- (39.0%) and three-room (25.5%) dwellings, in rural areas – three- (32.4%) and two-room (26.1%) dwellings prevailed. The average floor area of a dwelling amounted to 66.3 square meters, in urban areas – 60.5, in rural areas – 79.6 square meters. 42% of dwellings were located in the largest cities and towns of the country, i.e. in Vilnius, Kaunas, Klaipeda, Siauliai, and Panevezys.
The average useful floor area per capita amounted to 26.5 square meters, in urban areas – 25.2, in rural areas – 29.2 square meters. The average useful floor area per capita in Vilnius amounted to 25.4, Kaunas – 26, Klaipeda – 23.8, Panevezys – 23.4, Siauliai – 23.6 square meters.
The largest average useful floor area per capita was in Ignalina, Moletai, and Anyksciai.
Useful floor area is the total floor area of habitable rooms and other premises (kitchens, WC's, corridors, cupboards, loggias, and other warm auxiliary premises), excluding the floor area of balconies, terraces, cellars, and unheated loggias.
