The proportion of tourist visas issued has also grown significantly – in 2009, 20% of all visas were issued to tourists, while in 2010 the figure has grown to 32%.
In the first four months of this year, the total number of visas issued has grown by 10.4% year-on-year.
The services offered by the courier company Pony Express have also been enjoying increasing popularity, where the company is able to considerably ease the visa application process by accepting visa application documents, thus removing the necessity of making a trip to Moscow in person.
In total, more than 4,000 Russian citizens have taken advantage of the service so far, which is available at the company's offices in 37 cities across Russia.
