Lithuanian Railways decides not to raise freight rates for stevedores

In a relief for stevedoring companies operating in the port of Klaipeda, Lietuvos Gelezinkeliai (Lithuanian Railways) has decided not to raise its freight rates for them in 2016, the business daily Verslo Zinios reported on Wednesday.

"The decision was due to the difficult macro-economic situation and increased competition from road transport and from neighboring countries' railway operators," Vladas Ambrazevicius, head of the Tariff Unit at the state railway company's Freight Transportation Directorate, said.
Lietuvos Gelezinkeliai has acquired technologies to automate freight checking processes. It will handle all documentation electronically starting March or April, reports LETA/BNS.
