Using lack of capacity of Lithuania’s Klaipeda port, Latvian transit companies may win a competition in Belarus, said economic and financial expert Vadims Jerosenko, reports LETA.

He said that Belarus is seriously considering development of a dry port in its territory. "One of its most potential partners might be one of the world’s largest transit and logistics companies based in Dubai, Dubai Ports World," the expert said.
The Lithuanians are ahead of Latvians in this aspect, but, at the same time, the capacity of Klaipeda port is not as large as of Riga Freeport.
"In fact, the capacity of Klaipeda port is exhausted. Large partners are interested in territories that can be developed further. Considering the current turnover of the Riga port, its capacity can be increased by 40-50%," said Jerosenko.
