First grain cargo from Belarus handled at Ventspils Grain Terminal
"Ventspils Port has been previously collaborating with Belarus entrepreneurs handling potassium salt, oil products, metals and other types of cargo for already several decades. Now we start a new page in our cooperation history – Belarus has opened up its grain export to the Port of Ventspils. In the nearest future we plan not only to stabilize turnover of oilseed rape cargo from Belarus, but also to attract other types of grain cargo from this country," chairman of the board at Ventspils Grain Terminal Vladislavs Safranskis informed.
Geographical vicinity and the high export potential of Belarus are factors that could encourage long-term partnership in the sector if grain cargo exports.
Also rape seed exporters from Estonia, Lithuania, Russia and Kazakhstan show interest about services offered by the Ventspils Grain Terminal, as the company informed.
50 percent of Ventspils Grain Terminal shares belong to LSF Holdings; other shareholders are the Swiss-registered company LifeGrain with 41.46 percent of shares and Grain Pool of Kazakhstan with 8.54 percent of shares.
Investments at the grain terminal totaled around USD 30 million (LVL 17.7 million).
