Vladimir Yakunin: Estonian-Russian relations are warming up

Print versionRussian Railways Co President Vladimir Yakunin said in the American Foreign Relations Council in New York that there is warming up in the Estonian and Russian relations recently, LETA/National Broadcasting reports.

Yakunin told the National Broadcasting’s Wednesday evening news programme that Estonians and Russians are not enemies.
“The fact that relations between Russia and the Baltic states are improving was not only confirmed by President Ilves participating at the victory parade in Moscow but also by the fact that Ilves participated at the regional railway firms conference in Tallinn in February,” said Yakunin, adding that he was surprised over the president’s participation at the conference.
“Gaps between us were created by political misjudgements that were made maybe due to certain exterior influences. But the fact is that we have all the possibilities to improve relations,” said Yakunin.
