Liepaja Port planning to increase cargo turnover by 50% in 5 years

The Port of Liepaja is planning to increase its cargo turnover by 50% in the next five years, the head of the port's marketing and investment department Ivo Kolins told the business information portal Nozare.lv.

''The Port of Liepaja could reach cargo turnover between six and eight million tons per year,'' said Kolins, who added that the port intends to utilize its full capacity in the next five years.

 

According to recent calculations, the Port of Liepaja's capacity is 9.2 million tons a year.

 

The port is also currently being modernized and expanded, which will lead to additional possibilities for growth, writes LETA.

 

As reported, last year, the Port of Liepaja handled 4.3 million tons of cargo, which was 4.6% more when compared to 2008. On the other hand, in the first four months of this year, the port has handled 1.3 million tons of cargo, which is 0.3% less when compared to the first four months of 2009.
