Kaunas airport passenger traffic increased by 77% in 2010

In 2010, Kaunas airport passenger numbers were the highest over the past five years as the airport served 809,732 passengers, an increase by 77% year-on-year. Over the year, the number of flights operated at the airport grew by 45% to 8,753 flights in total.
"The strategy chosen as far back as 2005 to position ourselves as a hub of low-budget flights and transit cargo among Lithuanian airport proved to be right, which commits us to further purposeful work to meet the long-term targets set out to the airport," Kaunas airport CEO Arijandas Sliupas said.
In May, the leading low fare Irish airline Ryanair doubled the number of flights in Kaunas airport after selecting it as its first base in the Eastern and Central European region. At present, Ryanair offers 16 destinations in Europe. The Latvian airline airBaltic operates flights from Kaunas to Riga airport.
In 2010, London was the most popular destination in Kaunas airport. Last year, Kaunas airport launched flights to Paris, Milan and Brussels.
