The competition on the best design draft for the Viru pedestrian tunnel walls decoration has been announced open today, on January 19 to find works which would enrich public space both visually and functionally, making the desolate tunnel more vibrant and cheerful, a cultural fund Tallinn 2011 reports.

The aim of the project is also to make the tunnel easier to orient for the pedestrians.

The contest begins on January 19, and will last for four weeks, until February 15.

The works of the applicants should reflect the concept of urban space, or somehow relate to urban topics, as the organizers of the competition – Tallinn 2011 state. The project "Viru tunnel turns into an art gallery" is a part of the European Capital of Culture Tallinn 2011 program.

As reported, Tallinn gained the status of the European Culture Capital on January 1, 2011. Plenty of various events in different areas of art, culture, sports and entertainment are planned in a framework of the festive program.
