Overall, it stated that less than 20% of the rural population is using Lithuania Post's postal services.
However, the company said its services were popular in urban areas.
Around 51% of Lithuanians used the post office according to the survey, with 23% of people using it to send packages to relatives living in Lithuania, and 18% of those surveyed sending parcels to relatives abroad, writes LETA/ELTA.
The survey also suggested more letters and packages tended to be sent by women.
Inga Dunduliene, Lithuania Post's postal network director, said: "This survey showed that for rural residents one of the basic postal services – mail and parcel delivery – is no longer relevant, but the urban population sees Lithuania Post as a credible partner. We see that among the urban population, our parcel post delivery service is popular." Dunduliene added that Lithuania Post is intending to respond to the changing postal market, and offer new, high quality services to meet the needs of residents.
Among the most popular services offered at Lithuanian post offices, 46% of people in the survey bought postcards, stamps or envelopes, 30% subscribed to newspapers or magazines, while 18% received mail or packages and 12% used money transfer.
