Dombrovskis and Turkish ambassador discuss development of "Zubr"train project

Yesterday, Prime Minister Valdis Dombrovskis (Unity) met with Turkish Ambassador to Latvia Serife Serap Ozcoskun.

During the meeting, Dombrovskis emphasized the necessity to continue developing the route of the container train "Zubr" to ensure the transportation of Turkish goods from Scandinavia and Turkey through the Baltic States, BC was informed by the prime minister's press secretary Martins Panke.

 

Dombrovskis informed that Latvia is currently working on development of "Zubr" project. Ozcoskun in turn confirmed that the project could strengthen both countries' economies.

 

At the moment, "Zubr" operates on Latvia-Belarus route, however, already in the near future, the container train will connect Latvia with Ukrainian ports of Odessa and Illichivsk, offering the opportunity to transport cargo from the Black Sea to Latvia and Scandinavia by land.

 

During the meeting, the officials also discussed bilateral cooperation, especially in economy. Dombrovskis and Ozcoskun expressed hope that the next visit of Turkish businessmen to Latvia at the end of September or the beginning of October will result in new cooperation agreements.

 

In conclusion of the meeting, Ozcoskun lauded Latvia's achievements in overcoming the crisis, Dombrovskis – the excellent Turkish-Latvian bilateral relations on every level.
