Estonian economy and communications ministry received 1,010 reports from foreign states about law violations of Estonian highway cargo carriers in 2010, LETA/Postimees Online reports.

The ministry’s highway cargo transport committee reviewed on Wednesday explanations of companies about the law violations during international trips.

The committee said that it intends to make a proposal to the Labour Inspection to carry out though inspections in 22 highway carrier companies about fulfilling the drivers’ driving and resting time requirements and about its calculation.

The committee also said that it makes a proposal to the economy and communications ministry to warn ten transport companies in writing due to serious or repeated violations last year.

In March, the ministry sent letters of notice to 44 companies whose international transport organisation was discovered to have repeated or serious law violations last year. Mostly the violations concerned ignoring drivers’ driving and resting time requirements, malfunctions and stockings of technical state of vehicle, allowed load of vehicles, documents allowing to offer international transport services and violations of requirements of transport of dangerous substances.
