Ronis in Kazakhstan meets with Deutsche Bahn managers to discuss freight transport via "Rail Baltica" corridor

Latvian Transport Minister Aivis Ronis met with the heads of the Deutsche Bahn group during a working visit to Kazakhstan last week to discuss opportunities for freight transport and transit of Bundeswehr freights to Afghanistan via the "Rail Baltica" corridor, Transport Ministry's press officer Aivis Freidenfelds told the business portal Nozare.lv.
Rail connections between Eurasia and Northern Europe were also discussed at the meeting, writes LETA.
At a meeting with Kazakhstan Transport Minister Berik Kamaliyev, opportunities for expanding the Latvia-Kazakhstan cooperation in freight transit were discussed. The ministers noted the increasing importance of Kazakhstan in the organization of Chinese freight transport to Europe. The Baltic region countries are looking for ways to be included in these Eurasian transport corridors, informs the Transport Ministry.
A delegation of about 60 officials and businessmen represented Latvia at the "Kazakhstan Transport Days 2011" fair.
