Ilves understands Latvia's desire to change Rail Baltica's route through Riga

During a meeting with Latvian Transport Minister Aivis Ronis on May 5, Estonian President Toomas Hendrik Ilves said that he understands Latvia's desire the change the route of the Rail Baltica high-speed rail project to include connections to Riga airport and the city's port, the business information portal Nozare.lv was informed by the Transport Ministry.

The two sides had their discussion about the Rail Baltica project while traveling on the Valga-Riga train. Ilves arrived in Riga from Tallinn by rail, writes LETA.

 

In the discussion, Ronis emphasized the importance the Rail Baltica project has in connecting Europe's transportation infrastructure, and added that the European Union's co-financing of the project must remain in the area of 85%.

 

As reported, today, Estonian President Toomas Hendrik Ilves and First Lady Evelin Ilves arrived on a three-day state visit to Latvia.
