The company decided to close down the route after the last big railway customer had terminated freight agreement with the company.
"We have been working hard to find new customers, to increase freight volume and to improve the results, yet our efforts were fruitless. It means that the results of the route will only continue to worsen," said Anders Refsgaard, Vice President at DFDS Seaways.
According to DFDS, passengers and freight carriers will be provided with alternative route Klaipeda-Kiel, meanwhile, the staff of the route Klaipeda-Sassnitz will be transferred somewhere else.
