Nilson was on his way to Natal in Brazil, and had sailed/driven on the Atlantic Ocean approximately 260 metres from the Cabo Verde Islands just before Christmas, but had to disrupt his trip because of technical problems.
According to Nilson’s support team, the problems with the vehicle named Amphibear did not pose any threat to Nilson’s life, but the failures could not be fixed on location, as the waves were too high.
Nilson returned to the Cabo Verde Islands on a cargo ship and is now looking for options for transporting the amphibious car along. It has been estimated that it would take a day or two to determine whether it would be possible to get the car back on solid ground.
The longest crossing of waters on Nilson’s around-the-world trip that was launched in the beginning of November is the stretch from the Cabo Verde Islands to Brazil.
