Hyundai to dispute tender results on train leasing in Latvia

The Swiss company Stadler Bussnang AG (Stadler) won the tender for leasing new electric trains, whereas Hyundai’s offer was turned down by the procurement committee, as it did not comply with the requirements.
Hyundai representative Woo Dong-Ik told "Panorama" that PV's official response will be reviewed and the tender results contested. Hyundai representatives are prepared to meet with the Ministry of Transport to explain their position.
Hyundai’s offer was 30% cheaper than the competitors' offers, nevertheless, it was rejected as it "did not comply with the requirements."
Woo told "Panorama" that he is "shocked" by the tender results.
"Hyundai is a globally reliable train manufacturing company that has provided trains to many countries in the world for the past 40 years," he pointed out.
Stadler's offer was EUR 412 million, while Hyundai offered EUR 284 million euro.
Pasazieru vilciens refuses to comment why Hyundai’s offer was turned down, but the mass media reports that apparently the reason was the technical problems that the Korean trains experienced in Ukraine.
"I do not believe that this is the real reason. This opinion does not coincide with the client's [PV] decision," Woo said.
