Lithuania fails in its bid to host European cybersecurity center
BC, Vilnius, 10.12.2020.Print version
ithuania's bid to host the European Cybersecurity Competence Center did not receive sufficient support from other countries, informs LETA/BNS.
In a vote last night, representatives of EU member countries selected the Romanian capital of Bucharest as the location for the center, Simonas Satunas, Lithuania's acting permanent representative to the EU, told BNS.
"Three countries garnered the most support in the vote tonight. Lithuania came in third among the seven competitors. Romania, which is not hosting any EU agencies yet, received the most votes," the diplomat said.
Lithuania said in its application that the center could be set up at Vilnius' TV Tower and could accommodate some 30 to 50 employees.
At Lithuania's initiative, a group of EU member states established the EU Cyber Rapid Response Force this year.
