Manufacturing production output decreased by 1.5% in August

Data compiled by the Central Statistical Bureau (CSB) show that compared to August 2019, in August 2020, manufacturing production output1 according to calendar adjusted data at constant prices decreased by 1.5%.

Production output decreased in electricity and gas supply - by 11,7%, but in mining and quarrying there was an increase by 1.8%. Total industrial production output decreased by 3%.


In August, td in the factories, and its resumption was slower than a year ago. The largest decline in production output , according to the companies, was due to vacation time in sectors such as in the manufactxtiles - by 12.2%, in the manufacture of fabricated metal products, except machinery and ehe industrial production output decrease was influenced by vacation time for business partners and employees (in July and August this year), when the production process was temporarily stoppeure of motor vehicles, trailers and semi-trailers - by 27.4%, in the manufacture of tequipment - by 8.2% and in the manufacture of wearing apparel - by 3.3% There was a significant production output decline in manufacture of basic pharmaceutical products and pharmaceutical preparations. In the above-mentioned sectors, the sales volume of manufactured products in foreign markets decreased significantly in August this year. Production output also decreased in repair and installation of machinery and equipment, and food production (by 18.1% and 0.8%, respectively).


Conversely, there was an increase in production output in the sector having the largest share in industrial production - manufacture of wood, and of products of wood and cork - by 6.9%, as well as in printing and reproduction of recorded media - by 7.6% and in manufacture of computer, electronic and optical products.


Compared to July 2020, in August 2020, manufacturing production output according to calendar adjusted data at constant prices decreased by 2.7%. Production output also decreased in mining and quarrying - by 4.3%, but increased in electricity and gas supply - by 8.4%. Total industrial production output decreased by 0.4%.

Manufacturing turnover

Compared to August 2019, in August 2020, manufacturing turnover, according to calendar adjusted data at current prices, increased by 0.1%. Turnover in exports increased by 1.6% (including in the euro area - by 1.5%, in non-euro area - by 1.7%), while in the domestic market decreased by 2.5%.


In August 2020, compared to July 2020, manufacturing turnover, according to calendar adjusted data at current prices, increased by 0.5%. Turnover in exports decreased by 0.8% (including in the euro area - by 1%, in non-euro area - by 0.7%), while in the domestic market increased by 0.3%.
