DFDS to add two new ferries to its Baltic Sea fleet
The first of the two ferries – a ro-pax vessel – has already been floated out at a Chinese shipyard and should launch commercial operation at the end of next year whereas the other ferry is at an early stage of construction.
According to Vaidas Klumbys, DFDS spokesman for the Baltic States, the company expects the coronavirus pandemic to be contained by the launch of commercial operation of the new ferry.
“We saw increasing passenger flows and growing demand for travel in the Baltic Sea until the beginning of this year. We want so much to believe that the pandemic will be contained by the time the new ferry will launch operation and we will be able to use it at full capacity,” Klumbys said in a press release.
The first 230 meters long ferry will have a capacity of 4,500 lane meters and 600 passengers.
DFDS operates seven ferries on its Baltic routes from Lithuania to Germany and Sweden.
