Estonian education technology companies have established a cooperation body called EdTech Estonia, which at present brings together 28 of the sector's businesses, informs LETA/BNS.

Mart Laidmets, secretary general of the Estonian Ministry of Education and Research, said in a  press release on Tuesday that the establishment of the organization was preceded by years of joint efforts by the Ministry of Education and Research, the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Communications, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, universities, schools, students, teachers, university teachers and the education innovation community.

The leader of the process was Startup Estonia.

The actions of EdTech Estonia will be directed mainly towards ensuring the continuity of the field of education innovation, enhancing cooperation with teachers, students, parents, educational establishments and the state, and increasing exports by the sector.

The latter is of crucial importance for the members of the association, as for quality, scalable and sustainable innovation in education often numbers of users several times bigger than can be reached in Estonia are necessary, the association says.

According to Startup Estonia, the volume of private investment in the education technology sector has been growing rapidly in recent years, with altogether over 16 million euros invested in Estonian startups to date.

The turnover of the sector meanwhile has doubled in two years, crossing the 10-million-euro mark in 2020.
