BC, Riga, 09.12.2020.Print version
Rail Baltica, a European-gauge railway under construction in the three Baltic countries, has received another 214.3 million euros in funding, with 182.2 million euros, or 85%, allocated under the Connecting Europe Facility and the remaining 15% to be contributed by the governments, informs LETA.

Agnis Driksna, chairman of the management board at RB Rail, the Baltic joint venture coordinating the project, says the additional funding will allow advancing the construction of passenger terminals in Estonia and Latvia and ensure the construction of the line from Kaunas toward the Lithuanian-Latvian border.

"Furthermore, this funding will allow to progress with the development of the key railway subsystems, planning and design of regional stations and infrastructure maintenance facilities for all three Baltic States," he said in a press release on Wednesday.

Some 128.2 million euros will go toward the construction of railway sections at Riga Central Station and Riga Airport, and part of the segment from Kaunas northward to the border, and other works.

Another 86.1 million euros will be spent on technical design and planning, including the preparation of energy and railway control and command sub-systems.

Rail Baltica has already secured around 1.12 billion euros in funding from the EU and national budgets, including earlier grants, RB Rail said.
