Face masks to be mandatory also in nature trails in Latvia

Face masks will be mandatory also in nature trails and by environment sites where distancing among people are not possible, said Health Minister of Latvia Ilze Vinkele (For Development) after the meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers and the Crisis Management Council.

He underscored that people should think whether it is necessary visit those objects where crowds of people are possible. At the same time, distancing and face masks will be mandatory in nature trail and by sites decorated for Christmas.


Owners of the nature trails and tourism sites will have to place information on the requirement to wear face masks.


As reported, state of emergency has been declared in Latvia for a time period from November 9 until January 11.


The first batch of Covid-19 vaccines that will be delivered to Latvia shortly is expected to contain 9,750 doses of the Pfizer-BioNtech vaccine, LETA was told at the State Medicines Agency.


The Health Ministry, meanwhile, has released a vaccine delivery timetable. The first shipment might reach Latvia on December 26. The ministry indicated that the vaccines are stored frozen at minus 75 degrees centigrade.


On the morning of December 28, drug wholesalers would deliver the vaccines to vaccination rooms set up in ten Latvian hospitals where they can be kept for up to five days.


Inoculation of healthcare workers working with Covid-19 patients in hospitals and employees of the Emergency Medical Service is scheduled to begin on the same day.
