BC, Riga , 27.03.2020.Print version
Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, 14 companies in Latvia have announced collective redundancies, which will result in about 3,000 employees being laid off, said State Employment Agency (NVA) director Evita Simsone in an interview with commercial TV3 on Friday, referred LETA.
She said that most of the companies and the largest number of employees being laid off are in Riga and the Riga region.
Simsone said that the collective redundancies affect a broad range of sectors, including tourism, passenger transportation, other transport and logistics services, as well as waste management.
So far this has not significantly affected the registered unemployment data. "The unemployment rate has risen slightly - to 6.4% from 6.3%," she said.
She said that the number of vacancies registered with the agency has dropped slightly, but it is still high.
As reported, at the end of February, registered unemployment in Latvia reached 6.3% of economically active residents, down 0.1% from a month ago.
