Riga Tourism Development Bureau to be liquidated

BC, Riga, 10.12.2020.Print version
The Riga Tourism Development Bureau (RTAB) will be liquidated, but an agency aimed at attracting investments and tourism will be established on its basis, the Public Relations Department of the Riga City Council informed LETA.

Today, at an RTAB board and founders' meeting, it was decided to start the liquidation of the bureau. The RTAB will continue to exist until the new agency is set up to ensure the continuity of its functions.

Riga Mayor Martins Stakis (For Development) points out that one of the main challenges for Riga in the coming years will be to attract foreign investment, but there is currently no institution in Riga whose main goal is to attract international business to the Latvian capital.

"This is the first step in achieving a breakthrough in attracting international investment in Riga, as we promised before the elections. The new agency will work under the direct authority of the mayor of Riga, further emphasizing the importance of this area. We need to offer global business players not only services that are just as good as cities elsewhere in our region, but better ones,'' Stakis emphasized.

The Riga mayor points out that RTAB has important functions in the capital in areas related to tourism and the promotion of Riga internationally. It is therefore essential that the new agency be based in part on the RTAB, taking over these areas of competence from the bureau.
