BC, Vilnius, 21.10.2020.Print version
Lithuania's Ignalina Nuclear Power Plant (INPP), which was shut down a decade ago, is starting preparatory work for the dismantling of its reactor number two, with demolition scheduled to be completed by May 2028, informed LETA/BNS.
In the initial stage of project implementation, an environmental impact assessment (EIA) report will be made available to the public in late October, the INPP said.
Lithuania shut down the first Russian-built RBMK-type reactor of the Soviet-era facility in late 2004 and closed the second unit at the end of 2009. The decommissioning is expected to be completed by 2038.
